The Mid-Atlantic CICS User Group
The Mid-Atlantic CICS User Group Spring meeting was be held at the Marriott on April 20th, 2001. Below is a
copy of the planned agenda and notes on the meeting.
Morning Session:
‘The Once and Future CICS’ by Leigh Compton of the IBM Dallas Systems Center. Spring 2001 brings a new version of
CICS with all of the traditional qualities of service
and introducing support for Enterprise Java Beans. EJB’s bring the power of component base programming to the
enterprise server environment. Java and EJBs allow
programmers to build scaleable applications from off-the-shelf components while hiding the complexities of security,
transactions and distributed computing. The morning sessions will explore the new Java support in CICS, investigate
how to integrate existing applications with EJB’s, and discuss migration considerations.
Afternoon Session I:

security issues involving the CICS web environment. The main topics are: Basic user authorization; Resource
authorization checking; Surrogate user checking; Verify user checking; Verify user password API; Secure Socket
Layer (SSL); Digital Certificates; and ISC/IRC Security.
Afternoon Session II
‘CICS Web Enablement’ by Rob Morris, Jacada's Director of Product Marketing,
will discuss Jacada’s products and review customer case studies where organizations have rapidly web-enabled
their CICS applications. Jacada products automate the generation of Java clients; extend legacy applications
to the Web through HTML pages and provide thin client architecture where new applications written in COBOL, RPG
or other languages seamlessly integrate with thin clients delivered as JAVA, HTML, or wireless interface code.
